The club that focuses on positivity, mental health awareness, and suicide awareness.
After-School String Quartet Mr. Curry Based on ability and interest.
Band Front/Color Guard Mr. Worley The CYMS Bandfront performs with the CYMS Marching Band at all marching events (band day, parades). The CYMS Bandfront serves as a training ensemble for students wishing to participate in Bandfront at CYHS.
Choir Mrs. Perko This class meets during FLEX and your participation is graded; occasional sectionals are held throughout the school day; two concerts are held for the public.
Fifes and Drums Mr. Worley The Central York Middle School "Colonial Fife & Drum Corps" was formed in 1971 and continues to exist as one of the only fife and drum corps in America which is part of a public school music program. The CYMS fifes & drums perform music which was typical of fife and drum corps in Britain and the American colonies during the 18th century and portray military & civilian musicians from America's Colonial History... The group is active in the fall and spring with parades, civic events, and various other performances.
Holiday Brass & Woodwinds in Wonderland & Polar Percussion Mr. Worley The Holiday Ensembles are comprised of 7th, and 8th grade band students. These ensembles meet after school from mid to late October thru the end of December. The ensembles perform traditional holiday music throughout the York community, and are featured on our Holiday Musicale in December.
Intramurals Staff Intramurals take place 3 times a year.  Activities vary and are held after school.  Keep a look out in the CYMS Middle School Moments for an interest form!
Jazz Band Mr. Worley The CYMS Jazz Band is a traditional big band and is open to all students in grades 7& 8 whose instruments fall within the "traditional" format of the big band - saxes, trombones, trumpets, and rhythm section. The ensemble performs at jazz festivals, community and civic events, and the ever popular CYSD Jazz Night in the spring. The ensemble is formed in January, and rehearses after school through the end of the school year. Auditions are held if there is a surplus of a given instrument.
Marching Band Mr. Worley The CYMS Marching band consists of all 7th and 8th grade students in the overall band program. The marching band performs annually in 2 parades, and participates with the CYHS Marching Band and 5th and 6th grade students in the Central York School District Band Day, held at a CYHS football game in the fall.
Math Counts Ms. Hanes, Ms. Beck Math Counts is a nationwide competition program for middle school students. There is emphasis placed on speed, accuracy, problem solving and teamwork. Students meet once a week after school from October to January to practice and then can participate in county, chapter and state competitions.
Panther Pen Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Carlisle All students can contribute to the CYMS website with creative writing, artwork, and short articles about happenings around school. This may include contests or other opportunities to publish your work online. Stay tuned to announcements and emails with links inviting submissions.
Panthers All-Inclusive Club Mrs. Scanlin The motivation behind P.A.C. is to promote social inclusion, bringing together students of different intellectual abilities. They will work together on FUN projects, while creating a culture of mutual acceptance and respect. Team-building activities help to teach the importance of trusting and depending on each other. We will also identify any needs that our school may have and work together to make a difference!
CCC (Central Community Club) Mrs. King CYMS Central Community Club: A diversity club where Equality Matters. Our primary goal is to teach others about various cultures, religions, and neurological differences. We hope to create a more accepting environment by educating others. All students are welcome to join.
Play Set Mr. Decker Students construct the set for the school play.
Raise Your Voice Mrs. Perko Raise Your Voice is an auditioned after school small ensemble that goes out into the community to share their musical talents outside of the building.
Sectionals (Orchestra) Mr. Curry When students are involved in orchestra, sectionals meet periods 6, 7, and 8.
Select Strings (Orchestra) Mr. Curry CYMS students must audition for Select Strings. This group meets on days 3 and 6 during FLEX.
Special Olympics Unified Sports Mrs. Scanlin This group is an awesome way to appreciate and support one another. Through Bocce Ball, students of many different intellectual abilities will have the opportunity to engage in positive social interactions and the development of long-lasting friendships. Every student is an active participant and has a valued role on the team. Students will benefit from physical activity in a safe and encouraging environment.
Standing Ovations Mrs. Paiva, Ms. Goheen Standing Ovations is the Central York Middle School drama club offered to all students. The group organizes and performs a fall production with lights, sounds, and props. Additionally, the group connects in the off-season to practice performance and improvisation skills to become stronger actors.
Student Council Mrs. Paiva, Mrs. Groom The goal of Student Council is to promote a sense of community within the school, act as a voice for students with the administration, provide community service, and raise funds for charitable causes. We establish leadership opportunities within our various committees, plan engaging spirit weeks for everyone at the middle school, and educate students on parliamentary procedure. Student Council works closely with the middle school's Parent Teacher Organization to prepare events and contributions to our students.
Symphonic Band Mr. Worley The CYMS Symphonic Band consists of all band students in grades 7 and 8. The ensemble features full band instrumentation and performs at school concerts, events, and functions throughout the school year.
Toys for Tots Mr. Decker Students build and donate wooden toys each year at Christmas.
Yearbook Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Carlisle The CYMS Yearbook staff meets after school and works throughout the year to gather content and design layouts. This includes taking pictures, developing ideas for student surveys, creating pages for the book, and helping to promote sales. Look for the application to join the yearbook staff at the start of the school year.
